Landscape Planting Service

Installation of Trees, Shrubs, Ground Cover, Sod, and Interior Materials (or SoftScape) operations of GreenScape are dedicated to custom, quality, and the highest standards of workmanship.

Professional, highly trained, efficient and experienced crews are directed to ensure that design concepts are carefully translated to reality.

One great strength is having on board at all time the capacity and number of available associates to man the project which translates into on time, on schedule, on budget completion, usually even when construction delays accordion the time available.

Selected varieties of specimen plant materials not easily obtainable from the normal market are used in GreenScape's commercial, institutional, industrial and private projects. The nation's finest nurseries with proper soils and growing practices are the sources of prime nursery materials for every installed SoftScape project.

GreenScape has led the profession in the innovative use of technical and mechanical means to efficiently install plant material. Radio, cell phone, e-mail and Internet control of men and materials; augers, tillers, backhoes, and cranes are used in plant installation operations.

Softscape Planting Quality
To meet the client's requirements, three levels of quality of plant materials are offered:

  • Standard Quality
Meets all requirements of "American Standard for Nursery Stock", the normal specification required by Landscape Architects.
  • Exceptional Quality
Every plant meets "Standard Quality" as a minimum and in addition is of the highest quality in health and appearance.
  • Partnering Quality
GreenScape analyses the project to determine which plants need to be Standard and which need to be Exceptional, negotiates with its suppliers to find the best materials at the best costs, and partners with the client to achieve the optimal quality level.

In order to achieve the greatest value for the client, GreenScape's pricing strategy for these quality levels is our cost from the supplier, freight, sales tax and a small percentage markup to cover warranty. In that it requires virtually the same labor to install either of these levels of quality, all GreenScape's equipment, overhead and operating costs are included in our proposals as labor costs.

Soil amendments, bed preparation and mulching

Our years of experience with the soils of this region allows us to give our clients just the correct peat moss, sand, organic matter, lime, and/or nutrient soil amendments needed for the specific plant material.

Bed preparation-tilling the soil, adding the right amendments and raking to a fine, finished grade-has been our trademark throughout our history.

Our knowledge of hardwood bark mulch extends back almost 40 years when, tired of the weeds produced from seed in the cotton boll hulls then used for mulch, we tried hardwood bark. A good friend of Frank Colvett's who sold wood chips for fuel for boilers, told about a "jack-leg" sawmill operator in Weiner, Arkansas, who had a lot of aged hardwood bark he would be willing to "hog" to a consistent size. It was first tried on the Plough Administration Building on Jackson Avenue . Thus, a whole industry was born.

Sodding, Seeding, Hydroseeding, Erosion Seed Blanket, Erosion Control Fencing

The evolution in our lawn establishment program began with buying Bermuda pasture sod from area farmers and sodding roadway embankments. Our landscapes never looked quite finished because we didn't have the good looking rug of green lawn to tie it all together. After technology created Hybrid Bermuda, weeds were eliminated by chemicals and irrigation insured timely watering, beautiful (and complete) landscapes were possible.

GreenScape accomplishes all of these lawn establishment and/or erosion control methods.

Sodding is with varieties of Bermuda , Zoysia and the new Athletic Turf sod. Costs per square yard depend on the variety and site conditions.

Seeding is with Bermuda , TDOT specified Highway mixes or combinations of these recommended by GreenScape depending on seasonal conditions, site conditions or the needs of the client. Fertilizer, lime, other nutrient requirements, and soil covering may be added. Seeding costs per square yard depends on variety, site conditions, water availability and guarantee of establishment.

Hydroseeding is seeding using a hydraulic pump and tank to "blow" the seed onto the soil and cover it with a paper pulp to retain moisture and soil contact, usually resulting in quicker germination and seed establishment. Cost per square yard depends on variety, site conditions, water availability and guarantee of establishment.

Erosion Seed Blanket has a wide range of erosion control ability, seed incorporation and difficulty of installation for various site conditions. Therefore, there is a wide range of costs per square foot.

Erosion control fencing, usually required to prevent silt run-off from the site, ranges in cost per linear foot.

Site Clean-up and Grading

Upon the commitment to the corporate philosophy of doing whatever necessary to help the client meet his objective, General Contractors began asking that we help them by cleaning up the construction site and doing the final fine grading, both of which are done on a time and materials basis.

We are not a "heavy iron" dirt contractor but we do have available small rubber-tired and track tractors easily capable of getting the site ready for landscaping.

This capacity has greatly increased our ability to get projects completed on time when an accordioned schedule occurred.
