Our first major contract in 1962 with a contract value of $68,000, by far the largest planting contract ever let until then in Memphis by three or four times. Planted in May after the previous December 23rd set the record low temperature of minus eighteen degrees, with similar temperatures for our nursery suppliers across the south, the plant loss was the highest of any GreenScape project in our history—38%; however, we were under our estimated replacement cost by a few hundred dollars. This was also the first major Roy Harrover designed building; the magnificent architectural detail of the champagne glass, stylized tree forest that is the roof support can still be seen from certain angles behind the hideous parking garage later constructed by tasteless others.
