Seasonal Color

Seasonal color began when we. saw bright yellow, cheerful pansies in the twilight of a cold January evening on the terrace of a just completed Los Calenos hotel in Dallas more than thirty years ago. We were so taken with this new, innovative marketing tool, we convinced a management client, the Trammell Crow Company, to appropriate $5000 to install seasonal color the following spring. Each drive entry to their more prominent projects got one five foot round bed on either side. Thus began the huge city-wide program that represents six-figure income to GreenScape.

The technology for successful color programs has evolved and is still evolving, primarily in the bed preparation and pest control areas. GreenScape rebuilds each bed each time the plants are replaced to insure optimum growing conditions for the plants. Type and proportion of soil amendments and fertilizers, irrigation timing and sequence and pesticide timing and applications are considered trade secrets.

Typically, two rotations per year are installed-Spring and Fall. For some, bulbs for early spring are added. Four rotations-Spring, Summer, Fall (Winter), and Bulbs-are considered the ultimate in seasonal color. While types of annuals are limited, color and form within the types are abundant. Professional design assistance is necessary to keep our clients on the cutting edge of "something different".

The growth in popularity of perennials and grasses has allowed us to increase our palette of seasonal color and/or reduce the cost to our client.
